Browser Configuration Check
for the Library Proxy Server

Setup instructions  |  FAQ  |  Troubleshooting  |  Report a problem

This program tests whether your web browser is set up correctly to use the Library Proxy Server.

How to do it

  1. Using the setup instructions, configure your browser to use the proxy server.
  2. Quit the browser, then restart it.
  3. Immediately return to this page and click on the button below.

How it works

After your browser is set up, it requests a configuration script from the proxy server each time it starts up. This program checks to see whether that has been done.

A positive result means that your browser is set up correctly, and you should be able to use the proxy server successfully.

In rare cases, your browser will pass the test but you still cannot access the Library's licensed electronic resources. This usually means your computer is behind a firewall, or that your network settings are not correct. For guidance in resolving these problems, see our Troubleshooting page.

A negative result means that:

  • Your browser is not set up correctly
  • or
  • Too much time elapsed between restarting your browser and running this test.

The program works by examining the most recent records in the proxy server's log file, looking for your computer's distinctive IP address. Since these log records are replaced constantly by new ones, we suggest that you repeat the test if the time interval was more than a few minutes.
