UCB Buildings & Campus: Individual Buildings, Features & Sites

The following is a selective bibliography of materials available at UC Berkeley about specific buildings and features. This bibliography is not comprehensive, and there is not a listing for every structure on campus. See the Index to the Berkeley Campus Space Plan for information on specific buildings, including those buildings not listed here.

For information on campus buildings and landscape features refer to the guidebook, University of California, Berkeley: an architectural tour and photographs / by Harvey Helfand. 1st ed. New York : Princeton Architectural Press, 2002. EnvDesign LD761.H456 2002 Reference Desk.

When researching specific buildings, note that a single building may have different names at different times. Also, some names have been used for more than one building; for example, there have been at least three different buildings called Stiles Hall. This can happen in combination, for example, the first building called "Home Economics" was torn down in 1930; a second building with that name was built, then renamed Morgan Hall. Carefully check all names of a building, Cross-references are provided whenever possible.

Note that the University Archives contains a significant collection of architectural plans, drawings, and blueprints of UCB campus buildings. For a partial guide to the collection see: EnvDesign LD761. B35 1995 Reference Desk. Check OskiCat for recent acquisitions. Biographies and archives of UCB architects and planners also contain information pertaining to specific UCB campus buildings.
