UC Berkeley Buildings & Campus: A Selective Bibliography & Guide
Researching UCB Buildings and Campus is a guide to finding information about the UC Berkeley campus, individual buildings on the campus, and campus features such as landscaping. Also included are selective bibliographies of books and journal articles about the buildings, architects, plans, and landscape of the Berkeley campus. Most sources and items listed are part of the Environmental Design Library collection, but some archival materials are located in The Environmental Design Archives and The Bancroft Library. The Bancroft Library also houses the University Archives, and has information not available elsewhere regarding campus buildings. The University Archives contains a significant collection of architectural plans, drawings, and blueprints of UCB campus buildings.     • Online Archive of California A core component of the California Digital Library, the OAC is a digital information resource that facilitates and provides access to materials such as manuscripts, photographs, and works of art held in libraries, museums, archives, and other institutions across California. The OAC is available to a broad spectrum of users -students, teachers, and researchers of all levels. The OAC includes a single, searchable database of "finding aids" to primary sources and their digital facsimiles. Primary sources include letters, diaries, manuscripts, legal and financial records, photographs and other pictorial items, maps, architectural and engineering records, artwork, scientific logbooks, electronic records, sound recordings, oral histories artifacts and ephemera.

    • SPIRO: the database of the Architecture Slide Library, COED, UC Berkeley. Digitizations of slides available in the Architecture Slide Library. Although this only represents about 20% of the library's collection, this database contains many images of Berkeley buildings. Search by location: Berkeley, and the name of the building.

    • UCB Campus Buildings and Features File, Environmental Design Library, UC Berkeley. Contains newspaper clippings and other items about the UCB campus.

    • UCB Capital Projects - Planning, Design and Construction Services, includes Current Projects. (Department of Facilities Management) 2000 Carleton St. (at Milvia), UC Berkeley, phone: 510-642-7337, 510-642-2662 . Maintains a working collection of reduced drawings and plans for campus buildings. For access to the collection, present an official letter from a UCB faculty member stating purpose and need. There is a fee for photocopying. Call in advance for an appointment. NOTE: Contact this office only if the Environmental Design Library, University Archives or other library collections lack needed material.
