Basic Research Resources for City & Regional Planning is a selective bibliographic guide to basic city & regional planning reference sources in the Environmental Design Library and selected campus libraries at UC Berkeley. Although the guide reflects the American emphasis of the collection, international planning sources are listed as well. For additional assistance please consult the Environmental Design Library reference staff, 210 Wurster Hall.

UC Berkeley faculty, registered students, and staff who are off campus may use items marked UCB Only or UC Only by using The Library's proxy service or by installing the Connecting@Berkeley CD on their computer.

Index to current urban documents - UCB Only NY: Greenwood Press. The key national resource for local government publications ofthe United States. Online edition contains citations to and the full text (PDF format) of local government publications from approximately 500 selected cities and counties in the United States and Canada. At the core of the collection are fiscal and planning documents, including budgets and financial reports, and city, county and regional plans. The Index is also a good source of locally generated socioeconomic statistics, public health and social service planning, and business and physical infrastructure information.

"701" Comprehensive Planning ReportsThis rich collection of general plans spans the period from 1954 to 1976 when the U.S. Federal Planning Assistance Program of the Housing Act of 1954 (P.L.83-560), Section 701 of Title 7, subsidized the preparation of comprehensive plans and required their distribution to 13 U.S. urban planning depository libraries, including the Environmental Design Library.  More than 20,000 reports, issued by state and local agencies, were distributed.
  5. INDEXES: Most of these reports are listed in the Library's online catalogs.  Access is also provided in Dictionary catalog of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Library and Information Division in vol. 19 of the base set, and vol. 2 in Suppl. 1 and 2 (EnvDesign fHT166 A12 Reference).
