NRLF Request

UC Berkeley libraries shelve over four million volumes at the Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF), the off-site shelving facility for lesser-used materials from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, and UC San Francisco. Materials shelved at NRLF are clearly indicated in the catalogs.

Requesting Materials

UC Berkeley faculty, students, staff, and other UC Berkeley library cardholders may request materials from NRLF via Pathfinder. You may borrow items from NRLF or receive copies of book chapters, journal articles, and conference papers.

  1. Search Pathfinder for the title or call number.

  2. Click on the NRLF button in the appropriate record.

  3. Log in with your CalNetID and passphrase. If you do not have one, you can use your Patron ID number (from your library card) and PIN (usually your birth month and day in MMDD format, unless you have set up a custom PIN).

  4. Fill out the form completely, making sure to include the volume, date, author name, title, and page numbers for journal articles and conference papers.

  5. If you want to borrow an item, choose a library for the delivery location. If you want an electronic copy of a journal article or conference paper, choose "Post the article to the web and notify me at the e-mail address shown above" under Delivery Options.

  6. Click the Submit button.

Material requested from NRLF will usually be available within two working days.

If you need assistance, please visit the Engineering Library. For more information, see Borrowing from the Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF).
