All Issues

1. Wiley Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Online access to this 24-volume printed work is currently available on a trial basis. It includes more than 1,400 articles and new ones are added regularly to the web version. [ As of April 2002, we no longer have access to this resource. ]

The print copy is located in our Reference area at Call Number TK9.W55 1999.

2. ENGnetBASE

ENGnetBASE: This full-text database now provides access to more than 50 CRC Press Handbooks. Use it to find general overviews of topics or for looking up specific facts that are usually found in handbooks. It's available from our Electronic Books page. The default search is on all titles — to search just one or more titles, first check the Clear All Books box, then check the box(es) beside the title(s) you'd like to search. Please note: For updated information, see the March 2001 issue of this newsletter.

3. Fall 2000 Library User Survey

1,200 randomly selected faculty and graduate students recently received a user survey to measure service quality at the Library. If you received one, please fill it out as your responses will help improve library services in the future.

4. New Books Lists from Pathfinder

You can generate your own list from Pathfinder, the web version of GLADIS! Go to Pathfinder, then follow this path:

  1. Choose Recent Acquisitions from the menu in the left column.
  2. Select Current Month or Last Two Months or Last Three Months.
    • Location: ENGI Engineering
    • Publication Formats: All Formats
    • Leave the bottom two boxes blank to get a complete list.
  3. Click Submit.

The resulting list represents the titles added to the Engineering Library collection during the time selected. By default, the list is sorted by author. For a subject-oriented sort, select the Sort link on the left side, choose Call Number in the first sort box and click Submit Sort.

5. Royal Society Journals, Science and PNAS Backfiles in JSTOR

JSTOR has loaded large backfiles for its 6 General Science titles. See the list for complete information. Briefly, here are the titles and years covered:

6. Library Instruction Seminars

One of our main activities is giving instruction on how to use the Library and all its resources effectively. We do this one-on-one at the Reference Desk as well as at drop-in seminars held throughout the Semester. In addition, we'll give seminars to classes that are tailored to their assignments. The main advantage is that students are introduced to library resources at the time they need them. This is how it works: You contact us about a week before you'd like the seminar and give us a copy of the class assignment. You can request a seminar by using our Seminar Request Form.

Drop-in classes for the rest of the Semester are as follows:

7. Cal Photo ID Cards

The little flier that comes with your new photo ID mentions that the new card will provide access to Library services. However, for most of us, that isn't true yet. If you have an active Library Card now, that card will be your valid Library Card until sometime in Spring 2001. New faculty and postdoctoral fellows with no other active Library Card for UC Berkeley, can start using these cards for Library services.

8. Recommendations for Purchases
