Melvyl is the library catalog for the University of California. It inventories the books, journals, conferences, and other materials in all libraries throughout the UC system. Use it to locate both print and electronic materials.

Finding Books

Do you already know the book you need? To find it, search for the title and/or the author(s). Use the Advanced search option.

 Use View Search Results to display the results. 

View the Details/Locations to find more information: call number, locations.

For example:
The Engineering Library owns two copies of this book, and there's a link available to let you know whether one or both copies are currently available.

Are you just looking for books on a subject? Try searching for keywords. Use the Words as Phrase option if you want to search for an exact phrase.



You can limit your search based on library, format, language, and year.

Finding Journals

Melvyl contains no information about articles published within journals. But if you know the journal title, you can locate the journal in the library or online (if available).

Use Advanced search to locate a specific journal by title, and set the Words as Phrase option to YES.

You can also search for journal abbreviations: j biomed opt.

View the Details/Locations for a link to the online version.

If the journal is available online, there will be a link to the online access

Finding Conferences

Melvyl contains no information about papers published within conference proceedings. But if you know the conference name, you can locate the proceedings in the library. A few conferences are also available online, particularly those sponsored by ACM, IEEE, and SPIE. Check the Details/Locations for a link.
