EndNote Tips for Engineering Databases:
Importing from INSPEC

New Filter: For best results, download the latest INSPEC (OVID) filter from EndNote.

Direct Export

In INSPEC:

  1. Scroll to the Results Manager at the bottom of the page
  2. Set your options:
    • Select either Selected Results, All on this page or All in this set
    • Select Complete Reference for the fields option
    • Select Direct Export as the result format
  3. Click on the Save button
  4. Select Export results to EndNote, Procite or Reference Manager then click Continue
    EndNote should open automatically — select a library and the records will download themselves

Save & Import

In INSPEC:

  1. Scroll to the Results Manager at the bottom of the page
  2. Set your options:
    • Select either Selected Results, All on this page or All in this set
    • Select Complete Reference for the fields option
    • Select Reprint/Medlars as the result format
  3. Click on the Save button
  4. Save the records as a text file (e.g., inspec.txt)

In EndNote:

  1. Choose Import from the File menu
  2. Click on the Choose File button and select the text file
  3. Select the INSPEC (OVID) filter from the Import Option menu
    Note: If necessary, use Other Filters... to find it
