The Kresge Engineering Library, with funding from the Bechtel and Kresge Foundations, opened in its present location in 1980. Many private donors have made contributions toward the acquisition of research materials for the use of Berkeley students and faculty. This continuing support is very important in enriching our collections and sustaining the excellence of the College of Engineering's curricula and research programs.

Cash Gifts

Financial support provides funding for books, online resources, specialized equipment, special exhibits or projects. Gifts may be unrestricted or support a specific discipline. Contributions of any amount are welcome.

Memorial Gifts and Gifts in Honor of a Person or Event

Contributions given in memory or in honor of a person or to mark a special occasion such as a graduation are recognized with a bookplate. A named book fund can be established for a gift of $1,000 or more.

Endowment funds may be established with a gift of $50,000 or more. These funds provide the Kresge Engineering Library with an annual income in perpetuity and have a lasting impact on creating a world class engineering collection. Funds may be unrestricted or support library materials in a specific discipline (civil, environmental, bioengineering, computer science & electrical engineering, industrial engineering & operations research, materials science, mechanical engineering, or nuclear engineering). The University invests its endowments carefully to achieve a healthy rate of return that provides for both current needs and long-term growth. A special book plate will be created and placed in each book.

Planned Gifts

You may invest in the Kresge Engineering Library's future by including it in your estate plans through, for example, establishing bequests or trusts. UC Berkeley's Gift Planning staff can provide assistance in determining an appropriate arrangement to meet your individual needs.

Donating Books

Gifts of scholarly and professional materials have historically represented a significant element in the development of our outstanding research collections. We welcome individual gifts of books and journals, but due to space and staff limitations, we cannot accept materials we already own in print, have access to online, or are outside the scope of the collection.
