About the Kresge Engineering Library

The services and collection of the Kresge Engineering Library support the research and teaching programs of the College of Engineering. We are located in 110 Bechtel Engineering Center (campus map).

The collection includes more than a quarter of a million volumes in all areas of engineering, except for chemical engineering. The library collects at the research level for our core priorities: bioengineering, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, offshore engineering, operations research, and nuclear engineering.

The Engineering Library subscribes to more than 1,200 print and 2,400 electronic journals. The library provides access to all the major engineering article databases, as well as a substantial number of online reference materials and monographs. The library also houses a large collection of technical reports of federally sponsored research, particularly reports from NASA, DOE, and the EPA.

Many donors have made contributions toward the acquisition of research materials. Our Giving to the Library page gives the details.

Please use the Book Purchase Recommendation Form if you would like to suggest an item to be added to the collection.

Other campus library collections that support specialized areas within engineering are:

As a branch of the UC Berkeley Library system, the Kresge Engineering Library is an open-stack library, and users are welcome to browse in the stacks (Library Floor Plan, PDF). Material is shelved by Library of Congress call number, a subject-based system. Materials circulate to UCB faculty, staff, and students. Others who wish to borrow materials may purchase a library card at the Privileges Desk in Doe Library. For more information, see Circulation Services.

The Library's electronic materials may be accessed from the public computers in any of the campus libraries. Off-campus access to licensed electronic material is limited to current UCB faculty, students, and staff.

Some of the older and lesser used materials are in storage at the Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF). UCB faculty, staff, and students can submit their NRLF requests online through Pathfinder, as can users with a current library card. For more information, see NRLF Request.

The Kresge Engineering Library provides research assistance through our reference services. During the fall and spring semesters, reference librarians are generally available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. See Ask Us for more information on research assistance.

The library has several copy machines and microform readers/printers. They operate with coins or with copy cards. Copy cards may also be used to print from microform readers and public computers in the library. See Library Photocopy Services for detailed information.
