The University Presidents Forum

The University Presidents Forum, scheduled for October 14-16 to lead into the dedication ceremonies for the new C.V. Starr East Asian Library and the Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies, will bring together approximately 30 university presidents, chancellors and campus leaders from around East Asia and North America to discuss issues of common concern. The event will be hosted by UC Berkeley Chancellor Birgeneau, and is sponsored by the Institute of East Asian Studies and its partner in Korea, the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies.

University leaders will convene on October 15 to discuss issues such as "Global Literacy," "Educating China's New-Century Elite," Campus Culture: Diversity and Intellectual Democracy," and "The Role of Higher Education in National Development." Asian Presidents will spend a second day discussing aspects of university administration with high-level representatives from UC Berkeley, and will share best practices. Participants will receive a special tour of the new Starr Library, and will participate as well in the other events scheduled during the opening week of the Starr Library/Tien Center.
