Dragon Source provides access to thousands of Chinese popular magazines and journals in full texts. UCB has subscription to 1000 titles. The Encyclopedia of Taiwan Licensed by UCB


The result of 15 years’ work by historians and scholars, The Encyclopedia of Taiwan includes abstracts and indexing from thousands of books and is the largest single database on Taiwanese history in the Chinese language. Based on the Taiwan Literature Series edited by former Dean of the National Taiwan University Law School Chou Hsien-Wen, it is the most heavily referenced database of its kind.


Grand Secretariat Archives Licensed by UCB


There are over 4,000 Ming (1368-1644) documents and more than 300,000 volumes of Qing (1644-1911) archival materials in this database, including imperial decrees, edicts, memorials, tribute documents, examination questions, examination papers, rosters of successful examination candidates, documents from the offices of the Grand Secretariat, documents from the offices for book compilation, and old documents from Mukden. Memorials make up the bulk these documents. The archives contain valuable source materials for institutional, social and economic historians. They record general administrative activities and legal cases.

Compiled by edict of Emperor Qianlong, the Siku Quanshu (Complete Library of Four Treasures) is a compendium of 3,000 years of Chinese knowledge, including literature, history, medicine, science and technology, diplomacy, philosophy, linguistics and so much more. This Wenyuange edition of the Siku Quanshu encompasses 3,460 works totaling more than 36,000 volumes.

It is the main portal for accessing the digital collections produced by various institutions in Taiwan.

Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center (TBRC) Digital Library Licensed by UCB


TBRC was founded in 1999 by the late E. Gene Smith, revered by the spiritual leaders of Tibetan Buddhism as well by Tibetan and related area studies scholars around the world. Today, the TBRC Library, an online repository of the most extensive collection of Tibetan literature that has ever existed in one place, currently contains more than 7,000 works (17,000 volumes, totaling more than 8,000,000 digital pages) of Tibetan texts. Each year between 500,000 and 1,000,000 pages are added.

The China Biographical Database


This is an online relational database with biographical information about approximately 128,923 individuals as of July 8th, 2013, primarily from the 7th through 19th centuries. Developed by Professor Peter Bol.


China Historical GIS

The China Historical Geographic Information System (CHGIS) project was launched in January 2001 to establish a database of populated places and historical administrative units for the period of Chinese history between 221 BCE and 1911 CE. CHGIS provides a base GIS platform for researchers to use in spatial analysis, temporal statistical modeling, and representation of selected historical units as digital maps.


Catalog Database of Republican Era Buddhist Journals


This database contains records for over 140,000 articles published in Chinese Buddhist Journals of the Republican Era (1911-1949). These are all articles collected in the Minguo fojiao qikan wenxian jicheng 民國佛教期刊文獻集成, (Complete Collection of Republican-Era Buddhist Periodical Literature) (MFQ), and its supplement the Minguo fojiao qikan wenxian jicheng bubian 民國佛教期刊文獻集成.補編(MFQB).


Chinese Stone Rubbings Collection

It contains images of about 1,500 stone rubbings hold in the East Asian Library, UC Berkeley.


The International Dunhuang Project: The Silk Road Online

IDP is a ground-breaking international collaboration to make information and images of all manuscripts, paintings, textiles and artefacts from Dunhuang and archaeological sites of the Eastern Silk Road freely available on the Internet and to encourage their use through educational and research programmes. As of September 2013, there were 413,832 images in the database.

Chinese Poster Collection

Ann Tompkins (Tang Fandi) and Lincoln Cushing Chinese Poster Collection is an partially-processed collection assembled by Ann Tompkins, a U.S. citizen invited to China after supporting the People's Republic of China at the 1965 World Peace Conference in Stockholm. It is the largest U.S. collection of posters produced during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.

Gallery of Chinese Propaganda Posters (1925-2006) contains 200 Highlights from the collections of the International Institute of Social History, Amsterdam, and Stefan R. Landsberger (University of Amsterdam, Leiden University).

National Central Library Gazett Online


The Government Gazette is a collection of major national decrees & regulations. Its purpose is to archive original military & political measures, acts & proclamations, personnel assignments & removals, minutes of meetings, etc. This portal contains over 60 gazettes published since 1912, of which 18 gazettes from ministries and commissions under the Executive Yuan have been integrated into Executive Yuan Gazette since January 2005.

Sidney D. Gamble Photographs

From 1908 to 1932, Sidney Gamble (1890-1968) visited China four times, traveling throughout the country to collect data for social-economic surveys and to photograph urban and rural life, public events, architecture, religious statuary, and the countryside. As a sociologist, renowned China scholar, Gamble’s 4,608 photographs digital collection marks the first comprehensive public presentation of this large body of work.


The State Archives Administration of PRC – Digitized Archives


It provides access to digitized archival materials hold in the State Archive Administration. Collections released include Mao Zedong archives, the Communist Party of China archives in early time, and some archival materials in 1949 and 1950.


Virtual Museum of the Cultural Revolution


This Virtual Museum of Cultural Revolution was built upon a proposal by the Editorial Board of Hua Xia Wen Zhai in the Spring of 1996. Since then, the editorial board has collected more than 1 million words' worth of materials.

CALIS is a nation-wide collaborative project of China’s academic libraries started in 1998 with the primary service center located in Beijing University. It accepts Chinese as well as English as search input. Both simplified and traditional Chinese would yield the same search result. However, CALIS does not accept pinyin as a search input.


EVOCS - European Virtual OPAC for Chinese Studies

Sixteen major Sinological libraries in Europe (Germany, the U.K, France, and Belgium) participate in this system.
