This resource contains archives and publications of the Communist Party since its establishment in 1921. Content includes archives of historical documents, documents from the Communist Party's National Congress since 1921, publications of legendary leaders, daily activities of current party elites since 1989, historical events in the Party history since 1921, and Who is Who in the Communist Party over the years.

Bibliography of Asian Studies

This on-line version of the Bibliography of Asian Studies (BAS) contains 787,165 (as of 2013) records on all subjects (especially in the humanities and the social sciences) pertaining to East, Southeast, and South Asia published worldwide.

CEIC Global Database

It provides detailed macro-economic data with 1,400,000 time series for 121 countries, including China. Time series covered are National Accounts, Balance of Payments, Production, Sales,& Inventory, Banking, Construction, Interest and Foreign Exchange Rates, Government Finance, Investment, Demographics and Labor Markets, Economic & Household Surveys, Tourism, Inflation, Transport and Telecommunication, and Domestic & International Trade. Sources include International Organizations and National Statistics Offices.

CHANT (Chinese Ancient Texts)


It contains digitized traditional and excavated ancient Chinese texts, including oracular inscriptions on 53,834 pieces of original tortoise shells and bones, wood/bamboo and silk scripts, 12,021 bronze vessels and about 18,000 copies of the original inscriptions, Han and Pre-Han (pre-220AD) traditional Chinese texts, Weijin and the Northern and Southern Dynasties (220-589AD), and Chinese Encyclopedias (Leishu).

This database contains statistical and census data at the national, provincial, city and county level. Economic and industrial statistics are also available from this resource. Data source is the National Bureau of Statistics of China.


China Economy, Public Policy, and Security Database

This database contains high-value analytical reports intended to guide policymaking in the People’s Republic of China. These reports feature exclusive research and analysis by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and authors from similar institutions, and present objective analysis versus official government messaging on strategic issues.

China Geo-Explorer II

China Geo-Explorer II provides access to demographic and business data, maps and reports for Mainland China at various administrative levels, and access to efficient data integration for spatial and non-spatial data (custom radii, administrative units, spatial boundaries). It is a tool for quick and accurate location analysis and spatial assessment, and a tool for identifying spatial patterns and trends. The database can generate easy-to-use and customized reports, dynamic charts, tables and maps. Data can be exported as PDF, Excel, Word, or Shape files.

CSYD is a statistical yearbooks database. Authorized by China Statistics Press, this database provides comprehensive and continuous official statistics. It is in both Chinese and English language. Database features include keyword search, data analysis, and browse by category and title.

Chinamaxx Digital Library of Chinese E-books


This is a collection of over 700,000 titles of Chinese e-books. A large proportion of the holdings are books published since 1949 and a few are from earlier years. This rich and scholarly content emphasizes social sciences and humanities although it covers all the academic disciplines.

Chinese Anti-Rightist Campaign Database, 1957 –


This database contains primary sources pertaining to the Anti-Rightist Campaign, including government documents, directives, bulletins, speeches by Mao Zedong and other officials, major newspaper and magazine editorials, published “Rightist” views and their denunciations, and original archives.

The Chinese Cultural Revolution Database


This database contains original documents related to the Chinese Cultural Revolution, including Chinese Communist Party notices, instructions, proclamations, speeches and major media commentaries with detailed citations.

Chinese in California, 1850-1925

This website offers a topical approach to the material presented in the Chinese in California digital archive. Selections range in format, with books, pamphlets, prints, photographs, manuscripts, sheet music, etc. illustrating aspects of the story.

Chinse New Local Gazetteers Database


This database provides access to over 26,000 volumes of Chinese new local gazetteers, a collection with rich information on local histories of all provinces and counties in China.

Policies and Laws of China provides information on Chinese jurisdiction, legislature, and business laws. This resource contains current information on Chinese company profiles including products, capital, revenues, profits, contact details, web sites, etc. The database is updated on a regular basis. As of March, 2013, there were about 160,000 records in this database.

Complete Classics Collection of Ancient China


The Complete Classics Collection of Ancient China was edited by Chen Meng-lei, a renowned scholar of the Qing Dynasty. This digital edition of The Complete Classics includes the most seminal classics of Chinese literature and culture, from ancient China through the Qing Dynasty. It includes works on astronomy, geography, history, philosophy, literature, politics, economics, art, education, agriculture, medicine, and more.


Dacheng Old Journals Full-text Database


This full-text Chinese database contains 1.3 million journal articles from 120,000 issues of over 7,000 journals published in China.

The Digital National Security Archive

This archival database contains the most comprehensive set of US declassified government documents available. Collections related to China are China and the United States: From Hostility to Engagement, 1960–1998, The Kissinger Transcripts: A Verbatim Record of U.S. Diplomacy, 1969-1977, and Intelligence and China: Collection, Analysis and Covert Action.


Dissertations and Theses (Dissertation Abstracts)

Indexes graduate dissertations from over 1,000 North American, and selected European, graduate schools and universities. Locate Chinese studies related dissertations by keyword searching. Dissertations published since 1980, and master's theses since 1988, include brief abstracts written by the authors. Offers full text of most of the dissertations added since 1997.




Dragon Source provides access to thousands of Chinese popular magazines and journals in full texts. UCB has subscription to 1000 titles. They can be read from cover to cover in image file, as a print copy in its entirety, or in text format, which offers "copy & paste" as well as "search" functions.

A search platform dedicated to searching Chinese academic materials in book, journal article, conference paper and dissertation formats. Full-text materials can be obtained through a online document delivery service.


The Encyclopedia of Taiwan


The result of 15 years’ work by historians and scholars, The Encyclopedia of Taiwan includes abstracts and indexing from thousands of books and is the largest single database on Taiwanese history in the Chinese language. Based on the Taiwan Literature Series edited by former Dean of the National Taiwan University Law School Chou Hsien-Wen, it is the most heavily referenced database of its kind.


Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports

It includes the United States’ principal record of political and historical open source intelligence covering the period 1979-1996. Locate China related reports by browsing "China" and keyword searching.


Foreign Office Files for China, 1919-1980

This resource, published in six parts, makes available the complete British Foreign Office files dealing with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan during these decades.

1919-1929: Kuomintang, CCP and the Third International
1930-1937: The Long March, civil war in China and the Manchurian Crisis (forthcoming)
1938-1948: Open Door, Japanese war and the seeds of Communist victory (forthcoming)
1949-1956: The Communist revolution
1957-1966: The Great Leap Forward
1967-1980: The Cultural Revolution

The documents included combine eyewitness accounts, weekly and monthly summaries, annual reviews, reports and analyses with a synthesis of newspaper articles and conference reports, economic assessments and synopses on leading Chinese personalities.


Grand Secretariat Archives


There are over 4,000 Ming (1368-1644) documents and more than 300,000 volumes of Qing (1644-1911) archival materials in this database, including imperial decrees, edicts, memorials, tribute documents, examination questions, examination papers, rosters of successful examination candidates, documents from the offices of the Grand Secretariat, documents from the offices for book compilation, and old documents from Mukden. Memorials make up the bulk these documents. The archives contain valuable source materials for institutional, social and economic historians. They record general administrative activities and legal cases.

People's Daily


With publication started in June 1946 and a current circulation of 3 million, People's Daily is the most influential and authoritative newspaper in China. It is the official voice of the central government of the People's Republic of China.

Scripta Sinica


This database includes more than 688 titles and 445,950,000 characters of materials pertaining to the traditional Chinese classics. It contains almost all of the important Chinese classics, especially those related to Chinese history. New content will be added with the digitalization of more historical materials.

The first major newspaper in China, it has national coverage spanning from 1872 to 1949, from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic Era. It is a primary and critical resource for modern Chinese studies.

Si bu cong kan


This database contains selected editions of ancient texts in classics, history, philosophy and literature, totalling 504 titles in 3,134 volumes.

Si ku quan shu


Compiled by edict of Emperor Qianlong, the Siku Quanshu (Complete Library of Four Treasures) is a compendium of 3,000 years of Chinese knowledge, including literature, history, medicine, science and technology, diplomacy, philosophy, linguistics and so much more. This Wenyuange edition of the Siku Quanshu encompasses 3,460 works totaling more than 36,000 volumes.

Taiwan Electronic Periodical Services


This database offers full-text periodicals published in Taiwan. Currently TEPS contains more than 900 Taiwan Periodicals in various disciplines. It is updated periodically.


Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center (TBRC) Digital Library


TBRC was founded in 1999 by the late E. Gene Smith, revered by the spiritual leaders of Tibetan Buddhism as well by Tibetan and related area studies scholars around the world. Today, the TBRC Library, an online repository of the most extensive collection of Tibetan literature that has ever existed in one place, currently contains more than 7,000 works (17,000 volumes, totaling more than 8,000,000 digital pages) of Tibetan texts. Each year between 500,000 and 1,000,000 pages are added.




This is the online version of the United Daily News Group, the largest news group in Taiwan. It provides current full-text articles for seven Chinese newspapers in Taiwan.
