Telnet Option - Library Catalogs
|
Telnet is a communication protocol that lets you establish a
text-based, command-line, terminal-style connection to systems such as GLADIS, the telnet version of the UC Berkeley library catalog.
|
Why use it?
GLADIS is commonly used to renew books and check course reserve lists.
When using telnet, you enter search commands rather than
choosing options with a mouse. This can be convenient for experienced
users and may be necessary for some with physical disabilities, but telnet
systems lack features such as links to electronic journals.
Software Requirements
You can activate a telnet connection from your Web browser, but to use it, you must have a separate "telnet" application installed on your computer.
Note: The Internet Explorer 7 web browser and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system do not let you follow links from the library website to GLADIS or other telnet systems. You can make simple, one-time modifications to correct these problems. This process normally takes only a few minutes using our instructions.
