Document Delivery and Interlibrary Borrowing

Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF)

The NRLF is a cooperative library storage facility for infrequently used materials. It is located on the grounds of UC Berkeley's Richmond Field Station. Depositors to NRLF are libraries on the University's Berkeley, Davis, Merced, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz campuses, and the California State Library. As of June 2005, the Facility held over 4.7 million items.
Submit online requests via Pathfinder to borrow material shelved at NRLF or to receive electronic or paper copies of book chapters or journal articles. Consult with the circulation desk of any campus library to send a manual request.

Interlibrary Borrowing Service

UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff can obtain materials not available at UC Berkeley libraries through IBS. IBS acquires materials from libraries throughout the United States and the world. Requests can be submitted at the Chemistry Library or electronically at the IBS site. In general, journal articles are photocopied and mailed to you. Books must be picked up and returned at the Main Library.

MELVYL Catalog Request Service (about Request)

Faculty, students, and staff can use the "request" button on the web version of the MELVYL catalog to request books and journal articles from other UC campuses.

UC-eLinks Citation Linker

Faculty, students, and staff can make book and article requests through the UC eLinks Citation Linker. Requests can also be made directly from article databases by clicking on the UC-eLinks button.

Research Library Cooperative Program

RLCP is a cooperative agreement among University of California at Berkeley,
Stanford University, and the University of Texas that allows faculty, research staff, and graduate students access to library materials at any of these institutions. You must register for this service before requesting items. There is an online registration form at the site as well as an online request form. In general, journal articles are photocopied and mailed to you, and books must be picked up and returned at the Main Library.

BAKER Document Delivery Service

BAKER is a fee-based Document Delivery Service for UCB faculty, staff, graduate students, and UCOP staff with current UCB library cards. BAKER supplies material from the UC Berkeley libraries.

Berkeley QuickDoc

College of Chemistry faculty, graduate students, and research staff can submit requests for journal articles and conference proceedings from QuickDoc. QuickDoc uses a commercial document delivery service rather than the traditional interlibrary loan service. Requests must be submitted in person at the Chemistry Library; there is no online mechanism for submittals. Requestors are limited to ten articles per person per month. Turnaround time is generally about three working days. If you do not need your material in this time frame, please use the other services described on this page. Requested material is scanned and transmitted to the Chemistry Library. Printouts are picked up by the requestor at the Chemistry Library.
