Connecting from Off-Campus
- Proxy Server allows library patrons to access, away from campus, materials for which the library holds subscriptions. This includes online journals. Users can log into the proxy server using either CalNet or their ID number and library pin number. Some resources are not available through the proxy server, such as the SciFinder Scholar client/sever program and Crossfire Beilstein/Gmelin. However, the web-based version of SciFinder is accessible through the proxy server.
- Campus VPN (Virtual Private Network) service allows CalNetID authenticated users to tunnel into the UC Berkeley network from outside of campus, as if they were on campus, and encrypts the information sent to the network. If you want to search the SciFinder Scholar client/server program or CrossFire Beilstein/Gmelin from off-campus, you must use the VPN service; you cannot use the proxy server to search these databases.
- Home IP service is a shared service allowing UC Berkeley faculty, staff and students to access Campus Network and Internet Resources from their computers, at home and in the field, over standard telephone lines using high-speed modems.
