Keeping Up-to-date with WebSPIRS Databases

WebSPIRS is the interface for AGRICOLA and other databases licensed for use at the UC Berkeley campus.

SDIs (Search Alerts)
The WebSPIRS® SDI (Selective Dissemination of Information) feature allows you to save a search and have it re-run automatically when the database is updated. New records matching the search criteria are then automatically e-mailed to you.

Here's how to set up an SDI in WebSPIRS:

  1. Choose a WebSPIRS database (such as AGRICOLA) and run your search.
  2. Click the Search History tab (top of page) to view your searches from your current search session.
  3. Click the SDI icon punctuated email icon to set up your search alert.
  4. You will be prompted to log in. If you have not created a WebSPIRS login before, click on "New User" and create a username (your email address) and choose a password.
  5. Enter details for the SDI (name, expiration date, fields to include) and specify an email address.
  6. Once you've created your SDI, you will receive an email every time the database is updated with new records that match your search criteria.
