Opportunity for Staff Leadership The Staff Development Committee reviews Staff Development Fund applications and advises the University Librarian on matters relating to career development within the Library. In addition, the Committee sponsors programs which supplement existing in-service training and orientation programs and which support staff library career-related interests. SDC also sponsors the Library's Staff recognition award, an annual award honoring excellence in staff performance and contribution to the Library. Committee members serve a two-year term, and the Committee is currently seeking nominations to fill 5 staff vacancies. For more information about the committee and its charge please go to http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Staff/SDC/
New members will be working with SDC Chair, Fatemah VanBuren, Librarian representative AnnMarie Mitchell, Organizational Development Subcommittee member Cam Olen, and Ex Officio member Kay Starkweather. Special concerns of the committee in the coming year include:
If you are interested, feel free to contact any current SDC member and ask questions! A membership list is on the above website. Please send nominations, including a statement of why you would like to serve on the committee to either of the SDC Co-Chairs, Lea Mascorro lmascorr@library.berkeley.edu, or Cam Olen cfolen@library.berkeley.edu by Friday, August 31. We do encourage self-nomination, but ask that you check with your supervisor for approval prior to sending us your nomination. If you are new to the Library, we also hope you will apply, as we are eager to have the widest possible range of staff experience represented on the committee.

Prytanean Centennial The Prytanean, the first women's honor and service society of its kind in the United States, was begun one hundred years ago. Its tradition of service to the university began with lobbying for the establishment of the Students Infirmary and continues with the Prytanean Faculty Award, with many other benefactions along the way, for which the organization was awarded the Berkeley Citation. The current exhibit in the Rowell Case,
second floor Doe Library, celebrates this centennial with documents, pictures and memorabilia and will continue through October when the fifth volume of its continuing oral history series is completed with a ceremony in the Morrison Room.

Mark Twain On-line The staff at the Mark Twain Papers & Project are delighted to announce the
completion of their completely redesigned web site. Its new look was
created by the talented team of Pam Daniels of Library Technical Services
(currently on a year's rotation at the California Digital Library) and Mary
Scott of Library Graphics. The Library's own intrepid "Webman," Lisa Weber,
did the final tweaking. The site now has a handy navigating menu so that
one can sail along fearlessly and come ashore at will, as well as images of
Mark Twain and his manuscripts, a second exhibition, and a News & Notes
section that we will update as needed. We invite all Library staff to tour
through it. The site address is: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/BANC/MTP/
