Bancroft Roundtable The first Bancroft Round Table of the Spring Semester will take place on Thursday, February 20th at noon in the Lewis-Latimer room of the Faculty Club. Shayee Khanaka, Library Staff member will give a brief introduction to the "Persian, Arabic and Turkic Manuscripts at The Bancroft Library."
Although Bancroft's Rare Books and Literary Manuscripts Collection is better know for its treasures from the European and American traditions, they also include marvelous and beautiful works from all around the world. Amongst the least known is a precious, and long neglected, trove of manuscripts from the ancient civilizations of Western Asia. The provenance of our holdings is in some ways a mystery. The content of these works, however, is finally being revealed thanks to the efforts that Shayee Khanaka has recently made in cataloging them. You are invited to join us as she shares her discoveries with us.
Interested members of the UC Berkeley campus community are invited to attend this informal event. Bancroft Round Tables aim to stimulate thoughtful discussion and promote awareness of the resources of The Bancroft Library. Experiencing the literary and artistic productions of
different cultures is an important component in creating understanding between the peoples of the world. We invite you to come learn about Bancroft's treasures from historic civilizations that are largely unknown to us.
