Adieu Kathleen!
It is with a mixture of major sadness and major gladness that the Media Resources Center and the Teaching Library are bidding farewell to Kathleen Fitzhugh, LA IV operations supervisor of MRC: sad because... well, Kathleen is an irreplaceable original. She deserves much of the credit for making MRC the smooth-running and vital campus resource that it is.
Sad also, because her wonderful sense of humor, her boundless charm, and her impeccable sense of style and creativity have brightened all of our lives in the Moffitt/Teaching Library over the past 15 years. The glad part of this story is that Kathleen is leaving for a job as a real, live Librarian I with the Marin County Public Library, San Rafael Civic Center Branch, where she will be working in childrens services, reference, and other librarianly activities. We're sure her story hours and book displays are gonna knock em dead!
Kathleen started in Moffitt Library as an LA I circulation supervisor in 1983. She joined MRC as permanent rotational assignment in October 1989 (her first official day on the job was greeted with the Loma Prieta earthquake - a hard act to follow!) In the intervening 9 years, Kathleen has seen MRC through enormous growth in terms of both collections and use, as well as shepherding the Center through significant changes in collection access. She has also dealt with at least four disastrous rainy season floods in MRC; a major relocation of services and collections during the Moffitt renovation exile; on-going equipment catastrophes, and countless other brush fires. During her MRC tenure, Kathleen has built a real fan club of faculty and students, who have come to rely heavily on her broad knowledge of MRC collections and her unflaggingly high commitment to service to get them the videos they need for teaching and research.
It's clear that Kathleen's library and campus friends and colleagues are going to miss her tremendously. We wish her good luck and an exciting future in her new professional gig.
