Ty
Johnson Becomes Library Budget Analyst
I
am very pleased to announce the hiring of the Library's first
dedicated
budget analyst, Ty Johnson, who joins us from UCSF. Ty began work
on January 17, and will be focusing primarily on reconciliation and
maintenance of the operating budget at the unit level. Although personnel
allocations represent the lion's share of the operating budget, Ty will
be responsible for the other operating lines as well, including supplies,
equipment and capital projects.
Ty
will be reporting directly to me, but is in training for the first couple
of weeks as Elise Woods and I acquaint him with Berkeley's chart of accounts
and systems. As Ty progresses in training, Elise will be turning
over her interim budget responsibilities to him. Eventually Ty will
also be assisting Dave Rez and me in the continuing development of monthly
operating
budget reports for unit heads.
Ty's
appointment is a reflection of the increasing complexity of budgeting on
the Berkeley campus, due largely to the introduction of the new BFS systems
in 1999 and 2000. Assigned exclusively to budget, he will be able
to provide it the undivided attention it needs in order to remain current.
Ty's
desk is in the Library Purchasing Office, 322 Doe. He can be reached
by phone at 2-9024. I will be introducing him around the Library
as opportunities arise. In the meantime, feel free to introduce yourself
to him.
To
recap current financial responsibilities after the reorganization of LBS
during the fall, your contacts will be:
Genieva
Akbar for contracts and grants, payables, reimbursements, check deposits
and general accounting. Scherry Royal and Lynn Tran are working with
Genieva.
Betsy
Llosa for purchasing except furniture, and for pro-card transactions.
Jewel
Diles for furniture ordering.
Ty
Johnson for budget.
Genieva,
Betsy, Jewel and Ty report directly to me.
