CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF GWENDOLYN BROOKS
On Friday, January 19th from 12-1, members of the UCB community are
invited to a reading to celebrate the life of Gwendolyn Brooks.
Often referred to as "Mother Laureate," Brooks died in her Southside
Chicago home with pen in hand on December 3rd, 2000. We are honored
to join with thousands of others, throughout the country and around
the world, who will come together on this weekend to pay our abiding
respect to one of America's most honest voices .
The reading will take place in the Maude Fife Room (315 Wheeler) and
will begin promptly at Noon. Each reader will have one minute. If
you are interested in reading one of her poems, please submit two
suggestions by no later than Friday, January 12th to
Daphne Muse.
Please note that food and drink are not allowed in the Maude Fife
Room. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact
