GIVING TO THE FINE ARTS COLLECTION
The Fine Arts Collection at Berkeley
The Fine Arts Collection, comprised of approximately 175,000 volumes, is housed in the Doe Library in two locations, the Art History/Classics Library and the Doe Library’s Gardner Stacks. This collection complements the current academic curriculum in the Department of History of Art where faculty specialize in the areas of Chinese, Japanese, American, European, Modern, Greek, Ancient and Roman, Medieval, Italian Renaissance, Indian and Southeast Asian art as well as the Art Practice Department covering painting, sculpture, photography, and video art. Faculty and students from numerous academic disciplines across campus use the Collection comprised of books, monographs, exhibition catalogues, microform sets, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, and electronic databases.
The following types of gifts are available:
Cash Gifts for Book Purchases
Cash contributions of any amount are welcomed as they will support the purchase of new books supporting the Fine Arts Collection. The average price of one book is $75.00.
Gifts of out-of-print books or library collections are welcomed. Contact
about the materials you wish to donate.
Donations of recently published books are welcomed. New book purchases should be coordinated with
to ensure titles aren’t already on order.
Memorial and Honorific Gifts
Contributions given in memory or in honor of a person are welcomed. For a gift of $1,000 or more, a named memorial book fund can be established. A special book plate will be created and placed in each book.
Fine Arts Approval Plan Support
Approval plans allow for streamlined acquisition of international and domestic books, primarily exhibition catalogs and major monographs on artists. Current State funding does not allow us to purchase at a comprehensive level. A one-time or annual donation of $5,000 (or more) will help us reach this goal of excellence. A special book plate will be placed in each book.
An endowed fund is established in perpetuity and has a continuing impact on creating a world class collection in the Fine Arts. A named endowment requires a minimum gift of $50,000. The donor may specify an area of interest, e.g., contemporary art, Japanese art, painting, decorative arts, etc. The University invests its endowments carefully to achieve a healthy rate of return that provides for both current needs and long-term growth. A special book plate will be placed in each book.
All checks should be made payable to the UC Regents/Fine Arts Collection and mailed to:
