Visitor information

Priority access to UC Berkeley Library services and resources is given to UC students, faculty and staff. The UC Berkeley Library also serves members of the public and campus visitors in meeting research needs that cannot be met through their local public, special, or academic library or attendant interlibrary borrowing services.

UC Borrowers
UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff use their UC Berkeley ID as a library card. Students, faculty, and staff from other UC campuses can obtain a UC Berkeley library borrowing privileges card from the Privileges Desk (Doe Library, Floor 1, Mon - Fri: 9am - 4:45pm, Saturday: 1pm - 4:45pm, 510-642-3403) by presenting a current UC Registration Card or a current employee ID card. Stanford faculty, academic staff, and graduate students may use their Stanford library card for access and to borrow materials from the Anthropology Library. More details.

Institutional affiliates
The Library has agreements with a variety of institutes and organizations, which grant library access and borrowing privileges. More details.

Please begin your research at your local public or academic library. If your library is unable to satisfy your research needs, including interlibrary services, you may speak with a reference librarian about access to UC Berkeley materials. California residents are eligible to purchase a one-year Library borrowing privileges card. More details.

Scholars who have a research need should e-mail Susan Edwards , Head of the Social Sciences Division, to make an appointment for a reference interview.
