Another exceptional addition to this excellent series. Striking out from Morgan's thoughts on political systems, and relying heavily on her work among the Tonga, she discourses with skill on forms of political life (read: social control) and their meanings from acephalous societies through nation"states, colonialism and utopias. A brilliant book well reviewed by Lucy Mair in the Times Literary Supplement (1975:887)
